Your Alaska fishing adventure starts just a few short steps from your cruise ship on the Wrangell dock.  Step off the ship and onto the “Timber Wolf” as we head out into the calm, protected waters of the Inside Passage in search of Alaska’s most sought after sport fish.  All 5 species of salmon return to the Wrangell area throughout the summer as well as halibut and an assortment of bottom fish.  Take in the incredible Alaskan scenery while trolling for salmon or “jigging” for halibut in close proximity to the many islands that make up Alaska’s famous Inside Passage.

Alaska Charters & Adventures has many years of experience and vast knowledge fishing clients from cruise ships and regularly provides bear viewing, glacier excursions and fishing adventures specifically tailored for the cruising passenger.  We have fished many Un-Cruise Adventures passengers during their Wrangell port call.

Day of the trip:

The “Timber Wolf” will be tied up and awaiting your arrival at the Wrangell dock.  Once your ship has tied up and you can disembark, you’ll be met by either your guide or one of our qualified staff and escorted to the boat. After completing our pre-underway safety briefing, we will depart for the short run to the fishing grounds.  The “Timber Wolf” is a very fast, custom built 35 foot vessel with a walk in heated cabin, comfortable seating for 6 and on board restroom. While in transit, you will be issued your fishing licenses and salmon stamp (if required) and given a quick introduction to where we’ll be fishing, for what specie and daily bag limits as well as the technique that will be using.

Your guide will do all the rigging and setting of the gear, all the while, explaining how to use it and what to do when that fish takes the bait.  It doesn’t matter if you are a novice or experienced angler, we will make you feel at ease when it comes time to play and land your fish.

What you should know:

    1. Fishing licenses are sold onboard the “Timber Wolf” for your convenience. A 1 day non-resident license is $20 US and a King Salmon stamp is $10 US. You will need to bring a valid drivers license or passport with you. It is preferred that you pay with cash for your license and stamps, but we do accept VISA and MasterCard onboard. Licenses and stamps MUST be paid for before the end of the trip. Thank you.
    2. You will be fishing what we call “Captains Choice” while on board with us.  This means that you will be fishing for the specie that has been most consistent and available at the time of your trip. Below we have listed the specie you can expect to fish for throughout the summer months.

*King salmon – May & June
*Silver salmon – July & August
*Halibut – May thru September (best on small tides)
*Pink salmon – July & August
*Chum salmon – June & July

The Wilderness Discoverer set us up with John Yeager of Alaska Charters & Adventures. We liked John right away: He writes about fishing on his blog and other publications, and has an active Twitter feed (@WrangellFishing). Spending the afternoon out in the Alaska waters felt peaceful. I think I see the appeal of fishing now: A couple of beers, some brilliant scenery, lively camaraderie and short bursts of exciting activity? Sign me up! Chris Gray Faust ,Chris Around The World
